About Me.
My story begins in Guatemala - not because I was born there but because it is in Guatemala where my parents were born and raised and ultimately emigrated from. My father from a family of 12 and my mother from a family of 8 - with absent fathers and a country riddled with socioeconomic crisis and politics as unstable as 3 day-old room temperature jello; my parents found themselves in Florida at the exact right time to meet one another and have me, their one and only daughter. As the child of immigrants, my earliest goals in life (as young as 5) was to become one of the big 3 - lawyer, doctor, or engineer.
It was my mother who saw the way art shaped me as a child - trips to the museum, art camps, and art supplies as birthday presents. But as many immigrant children can empathize with, childish dreams have to be put away in order to make way for dreams that have substance - that mean something to the general public, that will make me somebody in this white-centric world.
After a tumultuous decade of going to school, thinking I wanted to be a doctor then I didn't, but oh maybe I was just discouraged because I was battling seasonal depression in a state that I had never lived in before. Let's try again but I don't really know who I am without that dream - am I allowed to want something for myself that is so different from what my parents wanted?
Am I allowed to have my own dream? That's just for me?
The answer, in case you were wondering, is Y E S.
This, Grecia Jacinto Wedding & Event Stationer, is the dream I have always had for myself. Where my days are spent creating and designing - being inspired by art and real-life love stories that I get the honor of capturing in a bespoke piece of art that will live on forever (maybe).
So, thanks for being here. Little Grecia is in awe of what I have built and current me is excited for all the opportunities that are coming.
